Tottenham Hotspur have signed striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
Spurs had been widely linked with a temporary move for the former Togo international, who was not in the first-team plans of City manager Roberto Mancini.
Tottenham confirmed the completion of the loan signing shortly before their Europa playoff second leg at home to Hearts on Thursday, a match watched by Adebayor at White Hart Lane.
We are delighted to announce the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City, a Tottenham statement read.
Adebayor, 27, arrived in the English Premier League with Spurs archrivals Arsenal, who signed the centre-forward from Monaco in January 2006.
He moved to City, then managed by Mark Hug…
Nabil Fekir claims lies told about his knee gave Liverpool an excuse to abort his expected transfer from Lyon last year.
France international Fekir appeared certain to join the Premier League club ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The attacker underwent a medical but Liverpool backed out at the last moment, reportedly due to concerns over knee problems dating back to 2015.
Fekir s former agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, described the knee issue as part of the reason the move collapsed.
The pair ended their professional relationship in April.
Lots of lies were told and that affected me, Fekir told L Equipe.
Especially those claimed about my family. It hurt both them and me. Especially when you know that what s being said is false.
When you …
England goalkeeper Mary Earps has expressed her dismay over the “very hurtful” decision not to put her replica shirt on sale ahead of the World Cup.
The Manchester United star was named the world’s best goalkeeper in women’s football by FIFA in February, and was also appointed vice-captain by England boss Sarina Wiegman for this global showpiece.
Earps claimed she only realised her shirt would not be made available by manufacturer Nike in April, and said she has since been “fighting behind closed doors” to find a solution before England open their campaign on Saturday against Haiti but to no avail.
The Euro 2022 champion said: “I can’t really sugar-coat this in any way, so I am not going to try. It is hugely disappointing and very hurtful.
Pep Guardiola s mindset is just to enjoy leading Manchester City in the Champions League rather than worrying about talk of a disaster if they still cannot win Europe s elite club competition.
Guardiola won the Champions League twice while Barcelona coach but has failed to add to that haul in otherwise successful stints in charge of Bayern Munich and City.
Perennial Premier League champions City have been repeatedly frustrated in Europe, consigned to upset losses to Monaco, Liverpool, Tottenham and Lyon in the knockout stages in Guardiola s first four seasons.
City then reached the final in 2020-21, only to again come up short against Chelsea.
Last year, there was a painful semi-final reverse at the hands of eventual champions Real Madrid, increasing exte…
Manchester City must add European trophies to sustained domestic dominance before they can be considered among world football s elite.
That is the view of former City boss Mark Hughes, whose Southampton side host Pep Guardiola s champions on the final day of the Premier League season.
City have broken records en route to the title this term and head into Sunday s match with 105 goals and one win shy of reaching a century of points.
But their Champions League campaign was ended by Liverpool at the quarter-final stage and Hughes feels they are still some way short of the sport s super powers, including rivals United.
It is still early days for them in terms of their standing in European and world football, said the Welshman, whose side are practically as…

Not many expect Slovakia to do much of note at UEFA Euro 2024, but they could end up being the surprise package of the tournament. Francesco Calzona’s side caused the upset of the competition so far when they got the better of Belgium 1-0 on Monday.
Belgium are a major European force and have big-name players such as Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku. Yet, the Belgians slumped…
