Johnson, 22, was arrested later and interviewed by police. He is currently on bail.

The alleged victim, also 22, is understood to have flagged down a passing police patrol in the early hours of December 6, last year.

Bryan Mbeumo delighted to come to the fore in absence of Ivan Toney

Bryan Mbeumo was happy to step up for Brentford in the absence of Ivan Toney in their 3-1 win at Tottenham.

The Bees were without 20-goal striker Toney, who has also been nursing a hamstring injury, after he was handed an eight-month ban by the Football Association on Thursday for repeated betting breaches.

When Harry Kane fired Spurs into an early lead, it looked like Brentford’s faint hopes of European football were about to end but Mbeumo struck twice in a 12-minute period at the start of the second half before setting up Yoane Wissa for the visitors’ third late on.

“Yeah, sensational. I can’t say more than this,” Mbeumo told BT Sport.

“The first half was a bit sloppy from us, in the duels we were not maybe there but in the second half ever…

Real Madrid to continue Copa expulsion appeal

Real Madrid have confirmed they will take their appeal against their Copa del Rey expulsion to the Contentious-Administrative courts of Spain.

Following a meeting on Monday, the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD) upheld the decision to kick the 2013-14 winners out of the tournament as a result of their decision to field Denis Cheryshev, who should have been serving a suspension, against Cadiz.

Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed earlier this month that they would continue their fight in the ordinary courts should TAD s decision go against them, and the club have since released a statement to affirm their intentions.

The club respects but does not agree with the decision of the tribunal and therefore communicates the decision to puruse the Contentiou…

Suarez hard done by for the Ballon d´Or shorlist – Thiago

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara believes the Barcelona trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez (MSN) all deserved to be finalists for the 2015 Ballon d Or trophy.

Messi and Neymar made the final-three, along with Real Madrid s Cristiano Ronaldo, while Barcelona striker Luis Suarez was the unlucky one to miss out.

Suarez finished 2015 as the top-scorer in La Liga, with MSN breaking record after record in the calendar year for goals scored.

Thiago, who played with Messi at Barca before making the switch to Bayern Munich in 2013, said the trio should all be in the running for the Ballon d Or.

Right now, all three of them are deserving of being in the running for the Ballon d Or, he said.

They re a fabulous trio, just like the …

Tonali compares himself to Pirlo and Gattuso after Italy debut

Sandro Tonali said he is a mix of Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso as he compared himself to the Italy greats following his international debut.

Tonali came off the bench to make his Italy bow in the country s 5-0 rout of Liechtenstein in Euro 2020 qualifying on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Brescia sensation – who has been linked to Serie A champions Juventus, Manchester United and Fiorentina – addressed comparisons post-match.

It s tough to pick one of those champions, Tonali told Rai Sport after being compared to Pirlo, Gattuso and Daniele De Rossi.

Maybe a mix of all of them would be perfect. I guess there are similarities with Pirlo in a way but I also add a lot of a grit in there, so maybe more Gattuso.

Man City star Aguero feels best he has in years

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero feels the strongest he has in years following successful knee surgery at the end of last season.

The Argentina international had an operation on a troublesome issue in April and missed his side s final six Premier League matches of 2017-18.

The 30-year-old has started this term in encouraging form, though, scoring twice in the Community Shield win over Chelsea before netting a hat-trick in the 6-1 thrashing of Huddersfield Town.

Although he has failed to score in City s three other league games to date, Aguero is feeling the benefit of playing pain-free for the first time in years.

Honestly, I feel fantastic, he said, as quoted by City s official website. Dr Cugat did amazing work with my knee and now I don t feel …

No bids for Di Maria according to Perez

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said that the club have as yet received no offers for Angel Di Maria despite the player’s agent claiming there has been huge interest in the midfielder, .

Despite appearing in all but two of the clubs league games so far this season, the Argentina international has fallen down the pecking order following the arrivals of Isco and Gareth Bale, and looks set for a move away from the Bernabeu.

Manchester United, Arsenal and mega-spending Monaco have been linked with moves for the 25 year old, who has racked up over 150 appearances since arriving in the Spanish capital from Benfica in June 2010.

Real host Segunda B side Olimpic de Xativa in the second leg of their Copa Del Rey round of 32 tie tomorrow evening and, with …

Underfire Bulgaria coach stands down

Bulgaria coach Stanimir Stoilov announced his resignation here on Tuesday in the aftermath of his team s second successive Euro 2012 qualifier defeat.

Bulgaria, beaten 4-0 by England at Wembley on Friday, lost 1-0 at home to Montenegro to prop up Group G, a performance that proved too much for Stoilov with Bulgaria s chances of qualifying now virtually neglible.

When asked on local television whether that would be his last match in charge he replied: Very probably yes.

He then added: From now on I will be the national team s and the new manager s number one fan.

Stoilov, 43, took over the post at the beginning of 2009.

Bulgarian football supremo Borislav Mihailov accepted the resignation.

I accept Stoilov s resignation. The question is…

Bale can be the best in the world – Benitez

Former Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez believes Gareth Bale has the quality to become the best player in the world.

Bale became the most expensive transfer in world football following his €118million move from Tottenham to the Spanish capital 2013.

The Wales international has gone on to score over 50 goals in just over 100 appearances for Madrid winning four trophies on the way, including the club s record 10th European title in his debut season.

And Benitez, who worked with Bale for seven months before being sacked as Madrid boss in January, thinks the 26-year-old has the potential to stake his claim as the best player in the world.

I never had a moment’s problem with Gareth. He was a very solid professional who listened, Benitez told the…
